PERFORMANCE
FOR EVERYONE
Learn performance by doing it.
Performance is not only something you watch.
It is something you can learn by doing it.
The Performance for Everyone is an open programme for discovering, exploring, and practising performance.
It is addressed to visual artists, actors, performers, dancers, filmmakers, musicians, students of art schools, as well as people with no previous artistic experience who want to discover performance as a different way of expression and creation.
No previous experience in performance is required.
HOW WE WORK
Each session combines theory, observation, discussion, and practice.
We watch and discuss works by historical and contemporary performance artists. We examine how a simple action can be transformed into performance and how the body, space, time, object, repetition, relationship, and audience can become artistic tools.
And above all: we try.
Through scores, exercises, improvisations, and creative assignments, participants explore different possibilities of performance and gradually develop their own ideas and personal performances.
Depending on the theme of each cycle, an artist or theorist may be invited to one of the sessions.
01 - PLAY
Scores · Rules · Interaction
What happens when an action acquires a rule?
When it has to be repeated?
When there is a time limit?
When it depends on another person?
When we leave something to chance?
When the audience can change what is happening?
The first cycle of Performance for Everyone explores play as a tool for creating performance.
We work with scores, rules, restrictions, repetition, chance, collaboration, competition, and interaction and observe how a very simple instruction can create an unpredictable performative situation.
We are not trying to “play correctly”.
We use play to discover what can become performance.
WHAT YOU WILL DO
During the 8 sessions you will:
become familiar with key concepts and different approaches to performance
see and discuss works by important performance artists
work with scores and different creative conditions
experiment with the body, space, time, objects, and other people
create and present short performances
gradually develop a performance of your own
OPEN DAY
At the end of each cycle, spiti8 opens its doors.
Any participant who wishes can present the performance they developed during the programme at an Open Day with an audience.
Participation in the final presentation is optional.
A DIFFERENT THEME EACH TIME
Each cycle of Performance for Everyone explores a different aspect of performance.
You can start with any cycle. You can return for the next one.
Each theme is a different entry point into performance.
